20 Top 20s of the 2020s: 1. Winter Olympians

Here we stand at the beginning of the end of the decade. Not really, but it is at least where I unveil my next grand plan: to write 20 lists over the next few years, each one celebrating the 20 best of something in this wonderful decade we call home. First up for a decade-in-review is… Continue reading 20 Top 20s of the 2020s: 1. Variety’s Actors on Actors: Recasting the stars

With the ever-anticipated Oscar nominations now announced, the shortlisted hopefuls now have just under six weeks to go all-in on their campaign trails with the goal of earning themselves one of those iconic statuettes (and getting loads of people to watch their films along the away). Of course, the nominees' journeys started years ago, but… Continue reading Variety’s Actors on Actors: Recasting the stars

Taylor Swift: My Eras

In autumn, Taylor Swift, arguably the biggest popstar of this century, proved once again that she rules the roost with the release of her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Swift’s current tour is stratospheric even by her own high standards, with the 146 dates taking her to five continents and the history books… Continue reading Taylor Swift: My Eras

My top 10 albums of 2023, and their top 3 songs

2023 was far from my most prolific listening year, but I still ploughed through a hefty bank of new releases. There's no specific thoughts on any of the albums here, just the albums, their beautiful (mostly) cover art, and my three favourite tracks so that anyone interested has somewhere to start. Happy new year. 10.… Continue reading My top 10 albums of 2023, and their top 3 songs

Predicting and analysing my Spotify Wrapped 2023

Amidst the glorious barrage of Christmas, there is a popular subsection of end of year celebrations which chooses to spend valuable time looking back on the year and deciding what all the best things to happen in that year were. It’s a subsection I, as a listmaker, naturally revel in. But the cream of the… Continue reading Predicting and analysing my Spotify Wrapped 2023

2023 World Cup: Team of the Tournament

Back in summer, before Luis Rubiales seemingly lost his mind, the plot, and then his job, hogging the headlines in the process, and before the monolith that is men’s club football restarted its engines, there was a month of blissful international sport celebrating the best players the women’s game has to offer. In an era… Continue reading 2023 World Cup: Team of the Tournament

My top 50 albums of the 2010s

I know what you're thinking. It's late 2023 and this guy is sharing his top 50 albums of the 2010s. He's a genius. He's not been sucked in by the rush of end of decade lists, but has taken his time to mull over thousands of critically acclaimed releases and decided in his incredible wisdom… Continue reading My top 50 albums of the 2010s

Oscars 2023: My nominees and winners

This will be the first year I make the effort to watch the Academy Awards live from start to finish and in anticipation of losing sleep, I've invested a little more time than I would normally in watching movies from last year so that I have a genuine opinion enough to throw my tv out of the window if Jamie Lee Curtis wins Best Supporting Actress. As is my wont, I've been tracking all the 2022 releases that I've seen and have nominated my own favourites for each of the Academy's categories.

Euro 2022: Team of the Tournament

It's come home. After a spectacular three and a half weeks touring the football stadia of their home nation, England's women became European Champions on Sunday at Wembley to claim their first major trophy and the first major trophy for an England senior team since 1966. Maybe we were foolish to ever put our faith in Southgate, Stones, Saka, Sancho and Sterling when we had Wiegman, Williamson, Wubben-Moy, Walsh and White to back. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole tournament and hope that we continue to see the gap in class and appreciation between men's and women's football decrease through the 31 matches played and the legacy that follows. Beyond the English triumph, there were a host of fantastic games and goals and I only thought it right to take a moment to praise the women who stood out as the cream of the cream.

A 10 step guide to building the perfect Christmas song

The week is upon us. After over a fortnight of anticipation, opening advent calendars, and trying to think of anything at all you could get for Grandma, and even longer being bombarded by flashing lights and emotional adverts, it's almost time for the month's climactic day. Another thing undoubtedly unavoidable at this time of year… Continue reading A 10 step guide to building the perfect Christmas song
